2009 plunged Americans even deeper into recession, and, according to some economists, back out of it again. We responded by (among many other things) sending autotune music to the top of the charts and making fun of the news. It was only a matter of time before a clever viral vid phenom managed to combine the two activities.
Kanye West, T-Pain, Lil Wayne, and… Katie Couric. All prolific autotune singers. At least after a group a singing siblings known as the Gregory Brothers got ahold of the CBS anchor and gave her the YouTube treatment under their username schmoyoho. The group has released a series of videos called “Autotune the News“. My favorite is “Auto-Tune the News #2: pirates. drugs. gay marriage.” Admittedly, I somehow missed the boat (or pirate ship) on this because it’s already a few months old… but hearing Ms. Couric sing “very thin ice, very thin ice” never gets old, shawty.
