As I mentioned in a previous post, and as anyone in this industry knows, there are a lot of different terms for a reporter who shoots and edits her own video. Some people try to split hairs and nitpick the differences between a “one man band” and a “video journalist”, but for the most part, they are the same.
It’s true, the “one man band” term is reserved for the small-market starter journalist, while the phrase “multi-media journalist” is now being picked up by newspapers across the country. Still, no matter which way you slice it, we’re all talking about a go-getter journo who can work a camera, and work it well. He can funnel the info he’s gathered into a comprehensive story and do it quickly. Write a text piece to accompany the video and still pictures on the website. Format it correctly to get it onto that website… AND make sure it airs on TV. Not to mention, she’s prepared to go live at any second.
